Citrus Summer Cocktail

My late Granny used to sing alot of little jingles when I was growing up. They were about anything and everything, and I’m not even sure how she learned so many. Nowadays, I get lovingly teased by my husband who says “you have a song for everything” : ) …don’t mind if I do. Thanks Gran.
One part of the songs Granny Jo used to sing, was about Rye Whiskey, and it went like this:

If the ocean were whiskey and I were a duck
I’d swim to the bottom and never come up
Rye Whiskey Rye Whiskey Rye Whiskey I cry
If the whiskey won’t hurt me I’ll live til I die

I’m pretty sure Granny didn’t even like whiskey, but when she sang this song, she crushed it.

I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve been enjoying a bit of the 1960’s via the TV show Mad Men. It’s obvious that cigarettes and whiskey were in high demand during this era. And for those who are more into the TV series Downton Abbey, originally set in 1912, this show has many-a-scene with Lord Granthem pouring himself a glass of whiskey in his library or study.

While it’s definitely an acquired taste, Irish Whiskey has a strong but smooth flavor. Andy occasionally enjoys some on the rocks, and although I can enjoy it served this way, you have to catch me in the mood.  For other moods I do prefer a refreshing cocktail every once in a great while. So yesterday evening, I opened the fridge and pulled out what I thought might be useful for one.
Here’s what came about – and in my opinion, it turned out just perfect!

just under a 1/4 c. Jameson Irish Whiskey
1/4 c. fresh squeezed grapefruit juice
1/2 c. orange juice
1 1/2 TBSP lemon juice
ICE CUBES
slice of grapefruit for garnishing

These little Mason Jars are perfect for making cocktails at home. We’ve all got at least one hanging around the house.  Let’s put it to use.
Throw all your ingredients in here, seal the deal, and give it a good SHAKE.

The glass will get frosted and your beverage will be refreshingly chilled!

I like to sip it straight from the Mason Jar, or you can strain it chilled into another glass if you wish.

Cheers!!  A perfect cocktail for a Spring or Summer party.
